Milinski and Boltshauser doubt that we have provided experimental evidence for a pursuit-deterrence function of predator approach behaviour in the guppy (Poecilia reticulata). They claim that our methods are flawed and our results correlational and, as a consequence, our evidence is ambiguous. Here, we present a rebuttal of Milinski and Boltshauser's criticisms, and provide additional experimental data that confirm the original results and interpretations of Godin and Davis.
