We experimentally demonstrate a ring-assisted MZI (RAMZI) design with slot waveguides for bulk index sensing using sucrose solution and compare it to the results of a single MRR design. The devices were implemented with multimode interferometer couplers (MMIs). The RAMZI design were found to have a sensitivity of 169.9±24.1nm/RIU and the free spectral ranges (FSRs) of RAMZI was found to be 34.3nm. The FSRs demonstrated was found to be 7.9 times larger than that of the single MRR design.
