Chemistry in molecular traps
Presented is a study of the effect of Stark shift on the interaction of trapped molecules, in particular on the exchange reactions. Including the effect of the nonresonant mixing of the ground and excited electronic potential surfaces, this paper extends previous studies of exchange reactions in infrared fields to the intense-field regime (I approx. ... 10 13W/cm 2). In particular, it is shown that, in addition to trapping and aligning, intense fields lower the potential barrier for the exchange reaction and induce bound states in the vicinity of the transition state.
