In this paper a novel planar balun was designed. The balun consists of a CPW-slotline T-junction with a CPW-slotline transition on either side of the T. One of the transitions is flipped so that an 180° phase shift is created at the output. The phase balance is maintained over a 31.5 GHz bandwidth, from 445 MHz to 32 GHz. The useful bandwidth is limited to 10 GHz due to return loss. The balun was simulated using Momentum and Ensemble, and was fabricated using Phillips' OMMIC ED02AH process.
