The performance of slot-fed, extended hemispherical, substrate lens antennas is studied by means of the hybrid Physical Optics method. Curves showing the directivity and reflection loss of various lens geometries and permittivities are presented. It is found that the conditions for maximum directivity and minimum reflection loss do not coincide, implying that certain performance compromises must be made.
