A bipolar 1 × 16 amplifier array is described for hybrid integration with an 8 × 8 p-i-n photodiode array receiver and application for parallel data interconnects through optical fibre arrays or free-space imaging. Limiting amplifiers of the transimpedance-transadmittance type were designed for low power consumption in BiCMOS technology, and measured results for operation at 622 Mbits/s of the packaged amplifier-photodetector arrays are given.
