Influence of the inner coordination sphere on the Ru(III)-cyanamido ligand-to-metal charge transfer chromophore

[Ru(bpy)(trpy)L]PF6 complexes, where trpy is 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine bpy is 2,2′-bipyridine, and L is a phenylcyanamido derivative, have been prepared and characterized. Spectroelectrochemistry permitted an analysis of the Ru(III)-cyanamido chrompore of these complexes. These results were compared to those of the analogous pentaammineruthenium(III) complexes.
