Through implementing the equal-strength analysis based on unified strength theory, strength calculation formulas of two-and three-layer prestressed combined dies for cold extrusion were derived in this investigation. Two parameters were included in the suggested strength expression, parameter & presenting/considering the difference between material tensile and compressive properties, and the parameter b describing the effect of intermediate principle stress. A computer code was created based on the suggested strength formulas. Utilizing the created code, six sets of & and b values were chosen for strength analysis of combined dies. And then, the effect of parameter &; and b on the strength of combined die was found and concluded. In addition, a set of prestressed combined dies has been successfully used for mass production which was designed based on the proposed strength calculation formulas and the corresponding computer code.
