Abstract. A new troglophilic species, Ptomaphaginus chapmani, is described from caves in Sarawak. it has the very unusual combination of very reduced eyes but functiobnal wings and may be interpreted as a phylogenetic relict, with characters suggesting a New World origin for this Oriental genus.
