This paper reviews several architectural extensions for Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) detectors based on FFT filter banks. Similarities between schemes involving time and frequency averaging of spectral information and their relationships with order-statistics-based CFAR detection schemes are examined and the strengths and weaknesses of the proposed architectures are identified. Several of these schemes are of particular interest in applications where impulsive noise is present.
