A nonlinear black box model for a thermomechanical pulp refiner is presented in this paper. In the model only manipulated variables for the TMP refiner are used to predict the motor load for both primary and secondary refiners. The model predicts refiner motor load using the manipulated variables, and is intended to be used as a reference model for plant operators to control the refiner.
