Until recently, a book such as this one would not have been possible. But, now, a critical mass of individuals exists who are conducting high-quality crime linkage research. The chapters we have collated for this book represent fairly well the diversity of issues that these individuals are examining, and the chapters have been written by some of the most active individuals in this field. Although we were not able to focus on all of the interesting issues being explored at present, nor include chapters from some active researchers and practitioners, we believe that this collection of chapters allows us to reflect in a meaningful way on the current state of crime linkage research. Such reflection indicates how far we have come over the last decade or so. However, it also shows us that much work still needs to be done. In this concluding chapter, we briefly summarize what the current state of research is and we consider where this field might be heading in the future.
