FRAMING OF RELATIONS BETWEEN RUSSIA AND THE EUROPEAN UNION IN NATIONAL MEDIA OF RUSSIA, GERMANY AND POLAND Based on an analysis of media articles from quality newspapers in Germany, Poland and Russia from 2003–2011, the author finds that relations with neighbouring countries of the former Soviet Union (e.g., Ukraine, Belarus) were depicted in all three national media as a predominantly conflictual aspect of the relationship between the European Union (EU) and Russia. Assessments of energy and visa relations between the EU and Russia across the three national media were more diff erentiated. Depiction in these media of normative issues involved in the relationship suggested disagreement about how key political values should be interpreted or applied. Refs 17.
