Preston MacDougall, a chemistry professor at Middle Tennessee State University, weaves together science and society on his weekly gig on Murfreesboro/Nashville national Public Radio station, WMOT. MacDougall has given a chemical interpretation of everything from firecrackers to immigration policy by means of a Friday science column called "Chemical Eye". MacDougall gets his ideas from a myriad of sources. The radio transcripts are posted online, and several newspaper have also published them in their commentary sections. MacDougall emphasizes the need to encourage the public to seek more information on chemistry. He is a theoretical chemist and his research with NASA scientist Chris Henze involves the visualization of the electron probability density of molecules.
